APACHE

The Apache was a passenger train jointly operated by the Rock Island and the Southern Pacific from 1926 through 1938. It traveled from Chicago to Los Angeles on the same route as the Golden State Limited. While the Golden State was an express train between Los Angeles and Chicago via El Paso, Texas, The Apache made many more local stops. It was eventually replaced in 1946 by The Imperial. The train also competed with the Union Pacific/Chicago and North Western train, the Challenger and the Santa Fe's Scout, a train for budget-minded travelers between Chicago and Los Angeles.
