New Merger

On July 29, 2025, Norfolk Southern announced a historic agreement to combine with Union Pacific Railroad to create America’s first transcontinental railroad.
"This combination will seamlessly connect over 50,000 route miles across 43 states coast-to-coast— unleashing the industrial strength of American manufacturing, and creating new sources of economic growth and workforce opportunity that preserves union jobs. The combined company will aim to be the safest railroad in North America, ensuring every team member goes home safe to their families and advancing Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern’s proven technologies for further safety improvements.
We are excited for what this combination can deliver all our stakeholders simultaneously, including our customers, people, and communities." - Norfolk Southern Railway
